Nick Symons (Chairman) is a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery. Nick has just finished his PhD at St Mary's, investigating quality of care in emergency general surgery. He is the chief investigator for the ESAP study, which was completed last year.
James Haddow is a Specialist Registrar in Colorectal Surgery. He is the Chief investigator for the SAS Pilot study which was completed last year, and also manages the website and email communications.
Giles Bond-Smith is a Specialist Registrar in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. He manages finances, communications, resources and PR.
Sarantos Kaptanis is a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery. He has expertise in statistics and is on the steering committee for PRIME.
Milan Makwana is a Foundation Year trainee. Milan has had experience in writing grant applications and is a former editor of the London Student Journal of Medicine.

Senior Committee
The senior committee provides academic support to the members. They are available directly for help, advice and contacts to help members with their projects. They also attend some of the project meetings to help steer discussions. Finally they have an input into the overall direction of the Group.


Charlie Knowles
is Clincial Professor of Surgical Research at the Barts & the London NHS Trust. He supports the group through research advice and steering projects, as well as overall development of the group from its inception.


Karim Brohi is Professor of Trauma Sciences at Queen Mary and Consultant Trauma & Vascular Surgeon at Barts and the London NHS Trust. He is also Specialty Tutor for Trauma & Emergency Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Paris Tekkis is Professor of Colorectal Surgery at The Royal Marsden Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. He has also worked at the Cleveland Clinic and holds a statistics degree. He has extensive experience in meta-analysis.

Meryl Davis is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital and specialises in complex endovascular repair.
